Rio Olympics — near the poo . . . l.

I kept being alarmed by the language of a “reporter,” interviewing athletes who have trained and have proven themselves to be the very elite in their discipline. I was able to sleep after jotting this interpretation of “skill.”

Thank you Taco Bell patrons

Etiquette

Two orange t-shirts,
in their fifties,
occupy a corner booth

designed for six,
share belch after belch
for our noon meal.

Reviewing Past Poems

04-09-2016

One of my students referenced a poem I’d written years ago. This led me to find that poem. Here’s another from that folder. Thank you Heidi.

Accountable

Even a slug
on a window
leaves a mark.

El Dorado Springs

Quarters of great riches
wealth on display, walking
streets, treasure hunting
adoring the pearl of great price

Profundity

I love writing poetry as a response to things I find entering my eyes while reading.  Often, I try to press those thoughts into some type of universal.  Hope I made it happen here.

Profundity

Every life is the best life.
The beginning, middle,
post-adolescence,
adulthood. The Best.
I know this because
I have this one life
and I am living it.

Haiku #57

I was trying to post a poem to a forum earlier this morning and the site’s advertising rested above the header (impossible to avoid).  I tried to reconcile its message with the PC world of editorial comments.  Alas, this is the best I can do.

Welcome 2016

01-14-2016

In First Grade

the complexities of adult life
manifest themselves
in any assignment.

After a kicker,
worth over three million dollars,
a season,

misses hard to the left,
kicking his team out of the playoffs,
Tommy understands

and sends his marker-soaked reminder,
“Keep on trying.  Puppys are cute.”
