I welcome any comments. Let’s me know you’re there.

CASSIE

Summer shade and late afternoons
in your mom’s lap
on the couch swing

in the middle of the yard
your head rocks back and forth
in laughter

mouth open
arms holding the unseen
keeping this symphony on its beat

To start your third summer
we choke on
don’t know what to do’s

and dry prayers
and we cry
and it’s for the you we knew

and the laugh you still share
